MAKE A SPLASH AT YOUR BABY SHOWER!
Baby shower etiquette dictates that it’s not appropriate to throw your own baby shower (who knew?!). Ideally, the host should be your best friend, your sister, or, at a push, your mother-in-law. So, having no choice but to put your trust in them to know what kind of event you’d like. From whom to invite to the food that’s served - all that’s left for you to do is choose your outfit!
You’ve passed that awkward ‘is she / isn’t she?’ phase and your bump will be well-defined, so enjoy showing it off - after all, this occasion is designed to celebrate the baby you will soon be holding in your arms. This doesn’t mean you need to go too figure hugging - an empire line maxi dress can accentuate your belly without causing heartburn or discomfort!
If you do decide on a tighter fit, choose comfortable, stretchy fabrics made from breathable cotton, or with an elastic waistband to give you just the right amount of definition. Towards the end of your pregnancy you may well choose comfort over form, and that’s just fine too!
Remember - the event may go on for a few hours, so make sure you’re wearing comfy, supportive shoes, and bring a cardigan or jacket so you can manage those fun temperature changes that hormones can cause. And last but not least – accessorize! Sometimes during pregnancy all that fits from your pre-pregnancy days is your jewelry, so bring out your favorite earrings, bangles or beads to accent your outfit.
One final thought: whether you’re a jeans and t-shirt kind of gal, or you like glitz and sparkle, just let your host know your preferred dress code for the event. You’re the star of the show, at least until your bundle of joy arrives, so make the most of it!
