Pregnancy Posing
Whatever your fitness regime was before you got pregnant, prenatal yoga can be a great way to prepare for childbirth and beyond. As well as helping you to stay fit and find your zen, the potential benefits of yoga during pregnancy include improving your sleep, strengthening the muscles you’ll need during childbirth, and relieving pregnancy side effects such as nausea and lower back pain.
But, before you even think about unrolling your mat and beginning your pre-class warm up, you’ll want to make sure you’re dressed for comfort and style with the perfect pair of maternity yoga pants – your pre-baby athletic gear probably won’t see you all the way through your pregnancy.
Oh, and even for those of us who don’t know our downward dog from our cobra, or our tree from our crescent moon, yoga pants have become a kind of unofficial uniform for pregnancy – largely due to their high comfort factor and ability to stretch around a changing figure. You can dress them up for the office with a smart tunic, or down for lounging at home with a vest top or sloppy T.
So, sporty or not, this is one of those basic items you’ll get a lot of use out of – during pregnancy and beyond.
Before you hit the shops, here are a few things to think about:
Use – if you’re buying yoga pants for exercise, natural materials like cotton will breathe easily, making them more comfortable on your skin, but they are not absorbent, so they may leave you feeling damp. Spandex or lycra wicks away moisture, so your skin will stay feeling dry even if you break out a sweat.
Fit – do you prefer a waistline that sits under your belly, or do you like the snug security of pulling your pants up over your bump? If you’re not sure how you’ll feel as your pregnancy progresses, look for yoga pants that have a belly panel allowing you both options.
Care instructions – unless you enjoy standing at the sink hand-washing your clothes, check the label to make sure your new pants are machine washable, even if it has to be cold water.
At Avishag Arbel, we have something for everyone. Choose from printed or basic plain, in a range of styles including above the knee, cropped or full leg, all stretchy, all breathable, with the versatility of a belly panel that can be folded over for extra support, or pulled up to cover your growing bump.
